Introduction
In 1998, the Ministry of Social
Justice & Empowerment organized a workshop to determine the need for
national phone service for children. It was then decided that the ministry of
Social Justice and Empowerment would support the replication of CHILDLINE across
India in a Phased manner.
CHILDLINE
launched on June20th. 1996 in Mumbai as a field action project of
the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) after four year of planning with
MTNL, NGOs and street youth and children of Mumbai.
Therefore
Child-Line becomes national with an identity a common logo, number and color
across the country.
In Shimla
CHILDLINE project was introduced by CHILDLINE India Foundation Mumbai with
Himachal Pradesh Voluntary Health Association and Population Research Center
(HPU) w.e.f 31st March 2006 with the installation of Toll Free No.
1098 at HPVHA Head Office. The project is supported by Ministry of Women &
Child Development.
The project
is sanction for Shimla city and surrounding only and under this, the Toll Free
No. 1098 is accessible to all the children who are below 18 years.
Objectives:
· To
respond to children in emergency situations.
· To
provide the telephonic counseling.
· To
provide to children undergoing any sort of exploitation like child labour,
street children, child victims of the flesh trade, children in institutions
etc.
· To
intervene the cases and match the available resources according to case
requirement.
· To
provide needful facilities like shelter homes, education, medical assistance,
repatriation, emotional support and guidance etc.
· To
create a structure and environment which ensures the protection of the rights
of child as mentioned or ratified in UN convention of the rights of the child
and Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) act, 2000.
· To
provide a platform for networking amongst organization and also create a child
friendly relation.
· To
create awareness among masses about Child Right & about the activities of
the Child line.
· To
being together Govt. & Voluntary Organization for making the environment
& System to work according to the need of time and direct the nation
builders toward a more secured path.
Signification
in this Year: Achievements of Child line:
v
Conducted
Survey regarding Child labour in shimla city and identify 300 Child laboures in
Shimla city.
v
CHILDLINE
Shimla rescued 11 labourers from Gqaun Pani Rampur district Shimla and
rehablitste them to their native land (Orrisa).
v
CHILDLINE
Shimla also rescued 13 child labourers from Dhabas in Shimla city.
v
CHILDLINE
Shimla rehabliutates ten of them to their parents and relatives and provides
their dues and assistance from their owners.
MAJOR
ACHIVEMENT OF CHILDLINE:
In this year 2010-2011
the CHILDLINE shimla has received 789
phone calls. Out of these calls 47
were for medical help, 6 for
shelter, 13 for Emotional Support
& Guidance, 2 for Sponsorship,
39, Protection from Abuse, 3 were for child lost and 146 for
information.
